Cestria at the Tour of Britain Stage 5

There were plenty Cestrians out in the fabulous sunshine to watch Stage 5 of the Tour of Britain.  Some went to Prudhoe to watch the start, whilst others saw the peloton through the first King of the Mountains climb at Haydon Bridge (where there was also an organised all-comers KOM competition about an hour before the peloton arrived).

Gavin Quiney even made it onto the podium for a presentation for his Everesting effort earlier in the year.

The main event though was to race the peloton to get to Hartside and watch the main event of the day at the summit finish – the peloton splitting apart on the final climb with a duel between Edvald Boassen-Hagen and Woulter Poels providing great entertainment.

With tired legs getting off the mountain and the ride home into the stiff headwind wasn’t quite as much fun, but served as a reminder of a great day out, on what was likely to be one of the last late summer warm days!

As some of the pictures prove, we even made it onto the ITV4 coverage and the ITV news bulletin!
