Mini series 5 results

After an excellent evening’s racing last Thursday, the tables have changed slightly. Don’t forget it is the best of 6 races plus you can opt to marshall and get max points. Dean Penfold pipped Michael Openshaw by a mere second with Michael Sloanes a commendable third. In the 18-39s section Chris Burns’ absence allows both Dave Sparrow and Michael Sloanes to leapfrog him (and Kris Adlington and Terry Ottaway snapping at his heels), but remember that it is the best 6 races that count, and Chris has not yet marshalled. Dean Penfold continues a steady rise up the table, as does Joe Shacklady. In the 40-55s Michael Openshaw opens up a 5-point gap to Lee Ridden, with Stuart Cook moving up to a podium place at the expense of Richard Barnett (who was preparing for an incredible Audax 600k/387 mile event at the weekend). Mal Grey pops up to 5th with the rest under 100 points. Rick Mitford looks to have the 56+ league done and dusted with a series PB of 21:59. Tom Guy was unfortunate not to finish in round 4 but bounces back this week with a series-best of 22:39. Great to see our own Nick Jobson testing again after injury, with a very respectable 26:12. Dave Burns (snr) still maintains his second spot on the podium, despite Tom Guy’s efforts. Ingrid Shepherd maintains her grip on the Ladies’ with Lesley and Sandy not competing in Round 5. Angela Fusco leapfrogs Jill Howarth with her marshalling points (both girls have now marshalled). Overall, Michael Openshaw has made a bit of space from the chasing pack, but we will have a better picture after next week’s race (because it is the best of 6).   Just a couple of points: When you sign to race, you must abide by the rules of the road. From the CTT’s own website, competitors must:(a) not ride in a manner that is unsafe either to themselves or to other road users (b) ride on the left-hand side of the road except for safe overtaking and when making right hand turns This is only a club event, so don’t take unnecessary risks. Our circuit is constantly under review and, to my knowledge, none of us are professionals. Thank you. Peter...

Allen Valley Velo Time Trial: 7 June 2015...

A Magnificent Seven riders from Cestria contested the Allen Valley Time Trial on Sunday.  The race was planned as 24 miles (two laps of a 12 mile hilly course around Allendale), but it was shortened to an 11.5 mile one lap due race to some traffic lights for Roadworks being in place.  Northumberland County Council had promised the race organiser they would be removed for the weekend but did not keep their word, so the race was shortened as a result. To add insult to injury for the organisers, a second set of traffic lights was installed in the final third of the course the evening before the race – which were in a location that was unavoidable.  Credit to the organisers – although angered by the situation they found themselves in, dealt with the problems well and seemed to run a smooth event. Once out on the road Cestria had a very good day.  Out of the 73 finishers our results were: Michael Openshaw – 3rd overall and 2nd in his age category Dean Penfold – 4th overall and 2nd in his age category Sandy Cheung – 7th Lady overall and 2nd in her age category Chris Burns – 8th overall and 4th in his age category Rick Mitford – 20th overall and 1st in his age category David Sparrow – 25th overall Mal Gray – 26th overall Top result of the day was the team prize.  The time of the three fastest finishers from each club was added together for the team competition – with Michael, Dean and Chris all being in the overall top 8 we were clear winners in this category and took home a crate of beer from the local Allendale Brewery – I suspect we may be back to defend our title next year! Many thanks to Dave Burns and Dave Sparrow for pictures. Rick Mitford Michael Openshaw Chris Burns David Sparrow Sandy Cheung Dean Penfold Mal Gray Chris Burns Team...
