This week will be the final round of Cestria Time Trial Mini Series, Due to roadworks round 7 had to be cancelled on safety grounds, and because our police notification expires on the 30th we cant reschedule that event, so as a result there will only be 7 rounds and the overall positions will be based on 4 of your best rounds plus marshalling points. So for the last time this year here is the request for marshals, if you want to gain your marshalling points dont delay and your name to this doodle doc. Hope we get a good turn out of riders and good weather for the last event. Good luck and ride safe Many thanks. Stuart...

Event Cancelled (Terry Proctor, Sat. 25 June 2016)...

Event Cancelled : Having just been to inspect the course it is my judgement that the road is too hazardous for the event to go ahead. There is a lot of loose gravel on the T-junction at Finchale and also on the LH bend just past the golf range. The straight section of road from the bend to the motorway bridge is covered with gravel and cars are travelling along it way over the indicated 20mph limit, kicking up clouds of dust a gravel. I will send out an email to all competitors to inform them of this necessary cancellation and will request that they send me a quick reply so that I know they’ve received it.  I will go down to the HQ tomorrow morning in case anybody turns up. This is unfortunate and very disappointing. But safety of riders is paramount and over-rides any other factors when making this difficult decision. Rick...

Cestria CC Club Mini Series TT

Cestria CC is delighted to announce our club mini-series time trials for 2016. The series is based on two laps of the M9 Leamside circuit. Link to the route https://ridewithgps.com/routes/6811132 It is open to all club members and you do not need to be an experienced Time Trial competitor to enter as all abilities are very welcome; If you’re not a member it will be possible to join for the rest of the year and membership forms will be available at each event. Cyclists already a member of a CTT-affiliated club can take second membership with Cestria CC for a charge of £4. The entry fee to race is £2 per evening, which is the fee we have to pay to the CTT. The series of eight races will run on every Thursday starting 12th May 2016 at 7pm with the first rider off at 7.01, and the final event will be on Thursday 30th June. There will be three men’s age-related leagues, and a ladies’ league. The final results will be based on your best five races, plus there will be points awarded if you marshal on one of the evenings. You can of course opt to race all eight events but lose out on gaining extra points for marshalling. Dates for all events 12th May 19th May 26th May 2nd June 9th June 16th June 23rd June 30th June This is the Important bit. This series can only run with volunteers to carry out marshalling duties on each of the event nights. The safety and success of these events completely depends on the input of individual club members, whether competing or not – please volunteer to help, no previous experience necessary. All marshals will be briefed on each event night and will need to be at the start for 6.30pm The request for Marshals will soon be posted via the Cestria CC face book page. As with all events there are a few do’s and don’ts which will be posted each week leading up to the event. We hope you will support this by entering and/or marshalling this circuit. Details of the age-related leagues and points system are below: Points system; league overall results based on your best five timed results and, if you choose, to marshal you get 50 points added. That is to say, if you ride 5 events and marshal once, the 5 are totalled and your 50 marshalling points added (maximum 300). If you ride 7 events and marshal, your top 5 results are totalled plus your 50 marshalling points. Needless to say, you’re welcome to ride fewer than 5 events and they will still be counted. You can ride all eight events and not marshal, but only your best five results are counted and will miss out on the 50 points for marshalling (in this instance your maximum total would be 250 points) 1st rider = 50 points 2nd rider = 49 3rd rider = 48 4th rider = 47 5th rider = 46 6th rider = 45 7th rider = 44 8th rider = 43 9th rider = 42 10th rider = 41 and so on …. Marshall = 50 points [you can marshal more than once, but only get 50 points once in the series] Thanks in advance and enjoy the Event series...

Cyclocross 2015/16 Season Review

With the 2015/16 Cyclocross season at an end, it’s a good time to review the year and pick out some of the highlights for the Club. Michael Kebell Dean Penfold Christian Webster-Reed Gareth Clarke Chris Burns Joe Shacklady Geoff Watson Dave Burns Sandy Cheung David Burns In the North East Cyclocross League (NECCL), Michael Kebell took a well deserved age category league title in the V50 league which also placed him 10th overall. Dave Burns (Snr), David Burns (Jnr), Chris Burns, Sandy Cheung and Dean Penfold also made appearances in the NECCL races with Dean and Chris taking three second places between them in the year. In Cyclocross North East (CXNE) Dean Penfold and Chris Burns had a hard fought year with Dean taking 5th and Chris 6th in the Senior Mens league – this was only resolved at the last round with Dean finishing one point ahead of Chris – very well done to both riders.  Joe Shacklady had some very good results taking a second place as a season highlight in the Under16 category.  Also appearing in the CXNE league were Sandy Cheung, Gareth Clarke and Christian Webster-Reed. A very special mention must also go to Geoff Watson.  The Lanterne Rouge is a cherished position to hold and often it was Geoff.  He also attended all 13 rounds of the CXNE championship (one of only 10 riders out the 524 CXNE riders who raced all year).  Despite some truly awful conditions during the latter part of the season and using one bike throughout he kept on plugging away recording a finish at every race – Well done Geoff.  My personal highlight was seeing him at the side of the course, fixing a puncture in the middle of the race at Hetton – he still went on to finish! Cestria as a club were also round organisers in both North East leagues.  The rounds took place at Meadowfield in October (NECCL) and Hermitage Academy in December (CXNE).  Thanks once again to everyone who helped to make these days of racing a success to raise the profile of the club.  Chris Burns in particular should be acknowledged for taking on the CXNE at the Hermitage – a huge task for a first time race organiser.  We are scheduled to host Cyclocross again in 2016 and hopefully the same support can be...

CXNE Cyclocross. Hosted by Cestria CC

Joe Shacklady takes second place Gareth Clarke Dean Penfold Senior race gridding up Gareth Clarke Gareth Clarke Christian Webster-Reed Gareth Clarke Joe Shacklady Geoff Watson Geoff Watson Dean Penfold Dean Penfold Mal Gray Mal Gray Sunday 20 December saw Cestria host CXNE cyclocross at The Hermitage Academy. Chris Burns and his band of volunteers started to set out the course on Saturday afternoon (special thanks to Dean and his Dad for help on Saturday as well as Sunday), and continuing again at 7am Sunday morning with a bigger group of helpers working by torchlight to get the course setup and ready for Sunday. Unfortunately Saturday night brought heavy rain which made for a muddy and slippery course – great for the spectators, not so great for anyone falling off (and there was plenty of falling off!) Well done to all the Cestria riders who took part especially Joe Shacklady who took second place in his race.  Also riding were club members Dean Penfold, Gareth Clarke, Christian Webster-Reed, Geoff Watson and Mal Gray. Also well done to Chris Burns – the CXNE series involves a lot of setup and organisation.  Massive thanks from Chris go to everyone who volunteered and turned out to help with course preparation and dismantle, sign on, car parking, marshalling and photography.  Without the volunteers it wouldn’t be possible to host races such as this.
